The Tales of Beatrix Potter (with Dancers of The Royal Ballet) (1971)
Under Sir Frederick Ashton’s choreography, the Royal Ballet perform wonderful interpretations of Beatrix Potter’s most famous children’s tales. Starring Peter Rabbit, Squirrel Nutkin, Jeremy Fisher and Jemima Puddleduck, and hordes of mice and pigs, the Royal Ballet are accompanied by breathtaking English countryside and a previously unheard score from the British Museum.
Ballet Training for Girls
This DVD presents a professional introduction to the world of ballet for children 5-8. Ballet dancers Oleg Usenko and Natalia Zemtzova teach the entire range from warming up to stretching and then on to the first dancing steps. After warming up and stretching, the girls will learn the plié, battement tendus, rondes de jambe par terres, adages, allegros, grands battements, and much more.
The Nutcracker marked the initial choreographic effort of Baryshnikov, universally hailed as one of the world’s greatest dancers. Under Baryshnikov’s inventive direction, the traditionally lighthearted story of a small girl’s dream on Christmas Eve is transformed into a more complex theatrical experience. Broadcast regularly on PBS, this American Ballet Theatre performance (directed in the studio by Tony Charmoli) stars Gelsey Kirkland as Clara and Mikhail Baryshnikov at the peak of his artistic ability as the Prince/Nutcracker.
